Comprised of Corey Howe (vocals, guitar), Vince Tuley (guitar), Evan Johnson (bass) and Ed Chaney (drums), the Dallas, TX-based quartet Dead Flowers have developed a reputation both locally and regionally for a boozy, bluesy rock sound that owes a debt to The Shouting Matches, Them Crooked Vultures, The Black Keys and others – and perhaps more important, for a live sound that hews closely to their recorded sound. As Howe mentions in an interview with Central Track, “if you don’t see an instrument onstage during one of the Dead Flowers’ live performances, you’re not going to hear it on their record either.”

And as a result, within a year of the release of the band’s debut, For You, the quartet opened for the likes of nationally known acts, Delta Spirit, J Roddy Walston and The Business, Murder City Devils, Reverend Horton Heat and The Whigs. Their latest effort, His Blues may put the Dallas, TX-based quartet on the national map – especially since they’ll be embarking on a national tour during April and May, which will include a May 16 stop at Piano’s.

Recently, the band performed a loose, whiskey soaked, Southern blues song “I Won’t Go” on The Chevy Music Showcase – in other words, be prepared for twangy, power chords, lyrics howled in soulful pain and thundering drums that sounds warmly familiar with a soulful, earnest, grittiness at its heart.
